Born and raised in Perth, Australia, Rodney Bahr migrated to the U.S. in 1996 to marry and fulfill his dream in the land of opportunity. Working 7 days a week, 14 hour days as a construction company owner, Rodney always missed the authentic taste of his home land. Each time going back to Australia, the first thing to do getting off that 25-hour flight is indulge himself in an Aussie Meat Pie. Not one place could he find the one favorite food that Australians eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner here in America. He tried the American Pot Pie, but it fell apart in his hands and having to use a fork and knife to eat it, didn’t make it his usual on-the-go delicacy. Alas, the Kanga Jacks Aussie Shack is an authentic Australian food concession stand traveling the Midwest and attending State and large county fairs, educating and introducing the American public what Australians have been eating for over 100 years. To no surprise, most people are amazed to the fact that you can actually eat this right out of your hand without it completely falling apart. If you like to eat on the run, this is it; Introducing Australia’s favorite fast food and America’s first hand-held, gourmet Meat Pie. Although it is not deep fried nor greasy, the meat pie is a hand-held, easy to eat flaky pastry filled with premium USDA chuck roast beef; 90% lean with home-style savory gravy flavor and in other varieties such as Beef & Cheese and Chicken & Vegetable with similar savory gravy; additional lines to be added in the near future. Along with the meat pie, the Aussie Shack also offers the Breakfast Pie for those morning fairgoers who like to beat the traffic, the Sausage Roll; a common favorite in both England and South Africa, which is finely ground seasoned sausage wrapped in a flaky pastry and two kinds of desserts; Caramel Slice on a stick and Pavlova, a baked over, deliciously sweet, light and fluffy citrus meringue topped with fresh fruit and cream. The meat pies are an Australian recipe but made here in America at a USDA regulated facility in Arizona whereas the Sausage Roll and desserts are all imported from Australia. You can find the Aussie Shack in most State Fairs along the Midwest region from Minnesota, all the way down to Texas. For those Midwesterners who cannot wait for the Shack to come back, a location set up in St. Paul are for pick up orders with direct mail for all others being a future possibility.
